Organic search has been experiencing a rapid evolution. From being almost entirely focused on traditional search, to the explosion of digital PR, and now adapting to changes caused by AI, social search, and more; the remit of search within the digital marketing mix has expanded massively.

At Evoluted, we’ve adapted to every change across the web since before the iPhone was even a thing, and this is just one more step along the journey. To succeed in this next big transformation we are looking to appoint an experienced, inquisitive and commercially savvy Head of Organic Search to take ownership of and strategically improve every aspect of our organic search offering at the agency.

The Role

The role comes at an exciting time in our 20-year history! 

Following a management buyout last May we’re setting our sights on achieving awesome growth over the next few years, working with exciting ecommerce clients across a wide array of industries.

The Head of Organic Search role represents a career-defining challenge for an ambitious individual - a role with the freedom to lead and shape how we continue developing our organic search offering to achieve world class results with a glowing reputation for excellence.

Sitting at a senior level in the company alongside our heads of client services, agency marketing, paid media, and engineering, you’ll have the scope to make a huge impact on our operations, our services and our culture to define where we go next. 

This is a full-time role and will require 1-day per week at our office in Sheffield, but for the other four you can do whatever suits you (on the sofa in PJs is 100% ok).

What You’ll Be Doing

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, manage, inspire and be fully accountable for Evoluted’s organic search team setting the vision, standards, and pace for exceptional client outcomes and sustainable departmental growth.

  • Chair and lead account team sit-reps to create clarity on account strategy, performance, risks and opportunities; ensuring teams are consistently delivering the right solution for clients.

  • Mentor and coach the organic search team at all levels, fostering a culture of learning, curiosity, and craftsmanship; identifying skill gaps and leading training initiatives across technical capability, strategic thinking, communication, and commercial awareness.

  • Build a long-term talent strategy, including progression paths, succession planning, and future leadership development within organic search, ensuring Evoluted remains an agency attracting and retaining top talent.

  • Continuously raise the bar on quality, embedding best practice, clear methodologies, and a people-first, client-obsessed culture that builds trust, longevity and confidence in Evoluted as a strategic partner.

Client Servicing & Strategy

  • Build and maintain trusted peer-to-peer relationships with client stakeholders acting as a strategic advisor beyond day-to-day delivery conversations.

  • Own the strategic direction of organic search across the client portfolio, ensuring all strategies are commercially grounded, prioritised correctly and aligned to client business objectives.

  • Define, challenge, and sign off KPIs that reflect real commercial impact to be achieved by our account teams and ensure we are on track to meet (and exceed) performance expectations.

  • Translate performance data into commercial insight and decision-making, not just reporting.

  • Take a hands-on role within flagship client accounts, providing senior experience and strategic input where it will have the greatest impact.

Operations & Resourcing

  • Own and be accountable for the organic search department’s P&L, revenue targets, performance and growth.

  • Lead resource allocation ensuring optimal utilisation, realistic capacity planning, and commercially sound project scoping and estimation.

  • Collaborate with Client Services and other department heads to ensure projects run smoothly from kick-off to completion with consistently excellent client experience.

  • Develop repeatable frameworks, playbooks, and service tiers that improve consistency, scalability, and profitability; balancing bespoke approaches with operational efficiency as the department grows.

  • Anticipate and plan recruitment needs, leading hiring decisions and ensuring onboarding sets new team members up for long-term success at Evoluted.

New Business & Marketing

  • Blend client focus with a commercial mindset to proactively identify and achieve upsell and cross-sell opportunities, identifying places to expand the scope of existing projects with solutions requiring cross-service integration.

  • Take a leading role in new business opportunities including discovery and project briefs/RFPs/tenders, production of proposals, leading pitches and negotiations, and closing new business.

  • Actively contribute to the profile and credibility of Evoluted’s organic search offering, working with the Head of Agency Marketing to promote our work through awards, case studies, testimonials and events.

Innovate Across Organic Search

  • Continuously evolve Evoluted’s organic search proposition, working with marketing, creative, and engineering teams to keep our services differentiated and ahead of the curve.

  • Lead Evoluted’s response to the changing landscape of search, including AI- and social-search, educating clients and internal teams on what’s changing, why it matters and how we adapt.

  • Represent organic search at SMT level, shaping both short-term priorities and long-term agency strategy.

  • Identify, validate, and lead new service innovations that keep Evoluted ahead of competitors and delight our clients; adapting to trends, platform shifts and changing risks in the wider business environment..

  • Champion the use of internal development capability to create tools, automation, and processes that improve performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Evangelise Evoluted

  • Be a visible champion for Evoluted at events, in networking circles, and on social media.

  • Establish yourself as a leading authority in organic search, both within the agency and externally, through content creation, social media and public speaking.

  • Challenge siloed thinking and advocate for the best outcome for the client, even when it means organic search isn’t the hero.

  • Proactively showcase the quality and impact of our work, reinforcing Evoluted’s position as a trusted, best-in-class agency partner.

What We’re Looking For

Agency experience is essential for this role, and strong experience working with businesses in ecommerce is highly desirable.

  • Proven experience in a marketing or development agency environment, in a senior organic search role.

  • A strategic and growth-focused mindset, with the presence and leadership to work alongside and influence change at the senior level.

  • Active across LinkedIn and at events, showcasing the pride and advocacy for your work

  • Embodies our values of Community, Integrity, and Mastery; prioritises people, over profits; and shares our ethos for positive change through social and environmental impact

  • A solid understanding of the concepts of the services we offer and the value they bring to our clients

  • An excellent communicator who can adapt their communication style to suit diverse audiences and situations

  • A creative thinker, with an ability to use data to lead and influence change
