Design Inspiration #9
Welcome to the 9th installment of the Design Inspiration series, a regular selection of recent sites that have caught our eye for their aesthetic and technical brilliance.
Site 1: beatsmusic.com
Beats Music is a new streaming service from the people behind the well know headphone brand 'Beats by Dre'. The service is currently limited to North America. I really like the contrast between the black & white sections, the use of clean typography and large imagery.
Site 2: vimeo.com/timeline/2013
This colourful site from Vimeo covers all of their highlights from 2013. Each icon is made from an animated gif and links to an individual story or video.
Site 3: bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/2014
The Sochi 2014 online coverage from the BBC has been excellent. Their website provides live coverage of all sports and also provides lots of useful information from the schedule of events, interviews, medal table and information on each sport.
Site 4: monumentsmenmovie.com
This is the official site for the new movie 'The Monuments Men'. The movie tells the story of an unlikely World War II platoon that is tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners. I haven't seen the film yet myself, however I do really like the website. I think the combination of clean lines and a subtle gritty feel really works well with the movie imagery.
Sony Be Moved is a scrolling website. Whilst there are plenty of these sort of sites around, this is certainly a very good example with smooth transitions and impressive visuals of the internal workings of some of their key products.
