Design Inspiration #3

17 July, 2012

Welcome to the 3rd installment of the Design Inspiration series, a regular selection of recent sites that have caught our eye for their aesthetic and technical brilliance.

Site 1: thedarkknightrises.com

thedarkknightrises.com

I've been really looking forward to the release of The Dark Knight Rises, so I thought I'd check out the promotional website and I wasn't disappointed. The site is built using a good combination of html & javascript and I really love the impact of full screen imagery and video. It has all the regular movie site features you would expect, such as an image gallery, downloads & videos etc. But it also has a few extras such as an interactive game & tumbler designer.

Site 2: grolsch.co.uk

grolsch.co.uk

This recently launched redesign for Grolsch is a fully responsive site, that looks just as beautiful at desktop, tablet and mobile screen sizes. I really like the imagery they've used and clean typography. The campaign section features a clever video that users can interact with via sms messaging. The site was built by former Evoluted team member Dan Lawson, who recently moved back to Manchester.

Site 3: inst.ag

inst.ag

This next design is a quirky single page site promoting Instagrille, a slick Instagram app for PC. The site features a very smooth parallax effect that hides the top section when you scroll down the page and the visuals of the app itself are very well polished. The only downside is that the app appears to be PC only, so I personally wont get to use it.

Site 4: chesterzoo.org

chesterzoo.org

I really like this fun design for Chester Zoo. The site design and structure holds a lot of content pages whilst maintaining user interest with great imagery and illustrations. I think it does a great job of appealing to its main target audience of children and Families.

Site 5: winforever.com

winforever.com

WinForever is another nice design that caught my eye recently. My favourite section is the homepage, which is based around a very cool grid system that boxes off different content sections including videos, tweets, images & quotes.

Remember when the Dark Knight website would have been done entirely in Flash? I thought film websites were the last line of defense!

Yeah, that's a good point. Until fairly recently it would have been difficult to find non-flash examples of film websites. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
