Evoluted 2019: A Year In Review
Evoluted has been going for 13 years now and with each year that passes us by, we’re getting bigger and busier. 2019 has been no exception to this rule - we’ve been jam-packed with new projects, growing our team and awards’ nominations.
It’s only right that as we start to slow down and wrap up for the festive period, we sit down, reflect and give ourselves a ‘reyt pat on the backs for another fantastic year.
Achievements, Accolades and Awards
Over the past 12 months, we’ve worked really hard and this has been recognised by several awards’ bodies.
Despite being up against some tight competition, we’ve proudly received five nominations in 2019 across the digital industry:

Managing Director, Ash Young, had plenty to say on the accolades picked up by Evoluted in 2019:

At the beginning of the year, we also became proud Patrons of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. This has seen us support the community with projects and city-wide initiatives.
One of the perks from our Patronage saw 20 of the Evoluted team attend the Sheffield Business Awards in December, sponsoring an award category close to our heart – ‘Excellence in Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility.’
To cap off our year of proudly representing Sheffield, we presented this award to Regather.
Outside of our home in Sheffield, we’ve done pretty well too. The Drum named us as number #71 in their Top 100 Independent Agencies 2019. Last year, we ranked as number 92, so our growth on this is a testament to the great work from the team this year.
In 2020, we’ll be striving to climb up the Top 100 list, secure more nominations and of course, wins!
Notable Projects and Case Studies
Collaboration is what we emphasise when working with our clients, as we look to build great relationships that work for both parties. Thanks to this mantra, in 2019 we’ve been able to carry out some of our most interesting and successful projects to date:
Gnome Student Homes
Having started work with the Gnome Student Homes team in August 2018, we’ve gone on to construct plenty of creative and engaging content for this student property business.
In the Summer of 2019, the Evoluted content team published ‘An Engaging Guide to Sheffield’s 13 City Parks’; creating a well-designed and inspiring resource on some of the city’s best green spaces. The guide was completed with contributions from local institutions with a stake in green spaces and the well-being of Sheffield folk.
The guide was shared on several collaborator websites including Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield Mind. It was also used on a number of prominent local sites including UnLTD, Sheffield Chamber and South Yorkshire Travel.
Having first started work with Peak Indicators in 2016, Evoluted and the client have built up a strong relationship.
So, when Peak Indicators wanted to start driving more relevant traffic and enquiries to their website, it was an easy conversation. We identified that there was a lot of potential to drive this change through SEO, and the client trusted us.
Some of the results we’ve seen over the past year include:
- 300% YOY increase in leads through organic traffic
- 106% increase in organic sessions to service pages
- 200% increase in organic sessions to the Tallinn Machine Learning page – which was identified as a key area of growth for the business
- 311% increase in organic sessions to Workforce Retention Analytics page
For this work, we were nominated for the ‘Best B2B Campaign’ at the Northern Marketing Awards 2019.
Looking ahead to the future, we have also been nominated for Best B2B Digital Marketing Campaign at the Northern Digital Awards 2020 for the same work.
In August 2018, Evoluted began work with MummyFIT, taking on their paid social media strategy. Like Fletchers, the work we have done for the client has really come to life in 2019.
By regularly adapting and evaluating our strategies - and constantly focusing on testing and improvement - we’ve seen these fantastic results:
- 336% increase in CTR
- 58% increase in conversion rate (lead to sign-up)
- 5.56 ROAS
Fletchers Waste Management
Fletchers Waste Management are South Yorkshire’s leading skip hire, recycling and waste specialists. They began working with Evoluted in September 2018. Since then, our work with the client has really come to fruition.
We’ve overhauled the clients’ SEO and PPC, focusing on enhancing Fletchers’ strong brand and localising search efforts. This has enabled us to drive some great results for their business:
- 115% YOY growth in organic visitors
- 95% YOY reduction in PPC cost-per-lead
- 9.5x YOY increase in enquiries from organic visitors
Formkraft Sales Website
Building on Formkraft’s rebrand in 2018, Evoluted designed a brand new sales site to match.
True to Evoluted’s ethos, we worked extensively in workshops with the client to figure out what the goals were, before wireframing and developing. We also then produced the large bulk of copywriting required for the site.
The result of this relationship building is a mobile-friendly website with a focus on the company's offerings, services and values. In turn, the website represents Formkraft as a company, highlighting their commitment to quality and customer service.
As we rebuilt the website, the design was heavily influenced by the clients’ photoshoot and we also created a tone of voice throughout the copywriting process.
FMJ Shooting Range
Working with FMJ Shooting Range in Stockholm, we launched a new website in May 2019, to coincide with their grand opening.
Available with Swedish and English language versions, we created a website that integrates with their booking system, meaning that the customer experience is seamless.
Another fantastic feature is that gift vouchers can be purchased from the website as gifts and then redeemed online.
During Christmas 2018, Evoluted conducted research for CarTakeBack that found that 1 in 5 people think it’s ok to drink-drive, as long as they feel okay to do so.
This campaign achieved great results, securing over 50 links in national and local news sites, including The Independent and The Express.
In 2019, we wanted to build on this festive approach – conducting our own study to find that you can drink yourself over the limit. Our specialists tucked into a rich, three-course boozy meal, all in the name of content, and found themselves to be over the limit (when combined with a standard glass of wine).
This project is only just going live, but we’ve included it as this is a great example of the sort of original content we produce for our clients – and something we’ll continue to explore further come the New Year.
Evoluted Team Growth
2019 has been a year of growth in many ways. We’ve learnt a lot, but we have literally grown too!
It’s starting to get packed at Evoluted HQ and one particular area of our agency that has expanded is digital marketing. With more demand and work, we’ve managed to increase our team by 40% this year - and it’s still ready to grow as we’re hiring!

November 2018 saw the launch of Digital Marketing event ‘Sheffield DM.’ Hosted at the Sheffield Tap, it’s a bi-monthly meet up featuring panels, talks and Q&A’s, designed to bring the digital marketing community in Sheffield together.
After the first event last year, in 2019 we have really pushed on, with five diverse and successful events taking place within the year. We’ve covered so much in 12 months, from Andy Naylor’s insight into service culture and customer loyalty, to UK Search Personality of the Year Arianne Donoghue’s talk on why you should invest more time and money into Bing.
Of course, there’s still so much to talk about; as we strive to cover all things digital. 2020 is going to be bigger and better. In fact, it’s starting on 23rd January -click here to get tickets!
Giorgio Cassella, organiser of Sheffield DM, said this about a full 12 months of Sheffield DM:
"We're delighted with how the Sheffield DM community has grown during its first year. Since the first small event, we now have a community of almost 350 marketers. We're trying out new event formats and have plenty of new speakers lined up for 2020, including some of Evoluted's own!"
Successes cannot be achieved without barriers, failures and challenges – which is why it is important to reflect on these moments.
While 2019 was a huge year, of course there have been some difficulties to overcome. Notably, competing for clients in an increasingly competitive marketplace and retaining and building upon a talented workforce in an equally competitive environment.
Despite this, Evoluted has been resilient and we’ve adapted to the changes in our volatile industry as we’ve needed to. In fact, our client list has also expanded throughout the year; while our team continues to grow in numbers and capabilities.
